Pixar: 25 Years of Animation
In the international blockbuster Pixar: 25 Years of Animation, over 500 original objects from Pixar Animation Studios tell the story of animation classics like Toy Story, Finding Nemo, Wall-E and Up. In 2013, we brought the exhibition to Amsterdam, to take audiences on an intriguing backstage tour through the archives of Pixar Animation Studios in California.
The exhibition tells the story behind the stories, uncovering where the ideas for the contemporary Pixar animation classics came from and how the films were brought to life. Pixar: 25 Years of Animation presents original models, old animation films, one-of-a-kind animation installations like the Zoetrope, storyboards, sketches, illustrations, paintings, pastel works and clay figures.
John Lasseter, co-founder of Pixar
People often don’t understand how important traditional media like drawing and painting are to create a computer animated film. The artists of Pixar Studios create hundreds, sometimes thousands of artworks to help us discover the characters and worlds. The work that they do is amazing, and before this exhibition was put together, we weren’t able to share these original works with people outside of the studios. We are very happy that these artworks are now on display in the Netherlands.’
We partnered up with National Geographic Channel to spread the knowledge of diverse, relevant subjects and by doing so, enthuse audiences about scientific and historical subjects.
As part of the exhibition, visitors were also able to watch a special making-of the Pixar film Monsters University, before its official Dutch release date in July 2013.
